Flock of Wild Flamingos Spotted in Green Bay, Wisconsin

Environmentalists are scratching their heads over the sighting of a flock of wild, pink flamingos (Phoenicopterus ruber) in Green Bay, Wisconsin this past weekend.

These famous pink birds are not typically seen in the northern United States because of their penchant for the warm, salt-watery regions typical of the South.

The temperature in Green Bay was a somewhat chilly 32 degrees Saturday morning. An insensitive few criticized the birds' foolhardy migration north.

But those who took the time to mingle amongst the flock swore they heard murmurs of "Mama"...

...and were inspired by the obvious (albeit misplaced) devotion of the birds.

Soon flamingo groupies were sporting t-shirts and directing traffic for the Taco Flamingo/Jo To Go Coffee Grand Opening.

While employees inside served up authentic, fresh Mexican food to the eager masses.

The flock has unfortunately moved on after the sudden, heart-rending disappearance of “Mama,” but don’t let that stop you from trying out Green Bay’s newest drive-thru sensation: Taco Flamingo and Jo To Go Coffee. The drive through is open from 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM seven days a week. Phone: 920.438.8646.
